Waterproof Mattress Protectors
Our waterproof mattress and pillow protectors have a waterproof coating to ensure your mattress and pillows are always protected from any spillages. Sleep is precious, so keep your mattress and pillows in perfect condition for longer.
»How Belledorm waterproof protectors work
A waterproof protector does everything a standard mattress protector does - shielding the mattress from dust mites, perspiration, and general wear, but adds a moisture-proof membrane that prevents any liquid from passing through to the mattress underneath. This makes it the stronger choice for children's beds, guest rooms, or anyone who wants complete protection against spills and night time perspiration.
Belledorm waterproof protectors use a TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) membrane bonded to the underside of a quilted cotton top layer. TPU is thinner, quieter, and more breathable than the older PVC-style backings - there is no plastic feel or crinkling noise when you move. The quilted surface feels the same as a standard non-waterproof protector, so comfort is not compromised.
The waterproof mattress protector has a deep elasticated skirt designed to fit modern mattresses, including those with a topper adding extra height. Sizes range from single to super king. The waterproof pillow protector uses the same TPU backing with a zip closure that fully encloses the pillow on all sides. For standard non-waterproof protection, or for hypoallergenic options with antibacterial treatment, see the main protectors range. A fitted sheet goes over the top of the protector as the sleeping surface.

Yes. Belledorm waterproof mattress and pillow protectors use a TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) membrane backing that prevents liquid from passing through to the mattress or pillow underneath. This includes spills, perspiration, and any other moisture. The waterproof layer is bonded to the underside of the protector, so the surface you sleep on still feels like soft quilted cotton rather than plastic.
No. Belledorm waterproof protectors use a modern TPU membrane rather than the older PVC-style backings that were associated with a plastic feel and rustling noise. TPU is thinner, quieter, and more breathable than PVC, so the protector does not trap heat against the mattress surface or make a crinkling sound when you move. The quilted cotton top layer feels the same as a standard non-waterproof protector.
Yes. Belledorm waterproof protectors can be machine washed at 40°C on a standard cycle. Tumble dry on a low temperature setting. Avoid using bleach or fabric softener, as both can damage the waterproof membrane over time. Washing every one to two months is sufficient for normal use - more frequently for children's beds or if the protector has been exposed to a spill.
Yes. Belledorm waterproof pillow protectors use the same TPU waterproof backing as the mattress protectors. They have a zip closure that fully encloses the pillow, creating a complete barrier against moisture, dust mites, and allergens on all sides. The zip closure also means the protector stays securely in place inside the pillowcase and does not shift during the night.
Yes. The waterproof membrane acts as a barrier against dust mites, which thrive in warm, moist environments inside mattresses and pillows. By preventing moisture from reaching the mattress filling and blocking dust mites from passing through, a waterproof protector serves a dual purpose - liquid protection and allergen reduction. For dedicated anti-allergy protection, Belledorm also offers hypoallergenic protectors that are specifically treated with an antibacterial finish.
Belledorm waterproof mattress protectors are available in single, small double (4ft), double, king size, and super king. The standard waterproof mattress protector has a deep fit with a 38cm (15 inch) skirt depth, designed to accommodate modern mattresses including those with a topper. A 20cm depth version is also available for slimmer mattresses. Waterproof pillow protectors fit standard UK housewife-sized pillows (50cm x 75cm).
Yes. A waterproof protector is designed to sit directly on the mattress, with a fitted sheet placed over the top. The fitted sheet provides the sleeping surface, while the protector underneath handles moisture and hygiene. This also means you can wash the fitted sheet weekly (as most sleep hygiene guidance recommends) without needing to remove and wash the protector every time - the protector only needs washing every one to two months under normal use.
