What is included in a Belledorm duvet cover set?

A Belledorm duvet cover set includes a duvet cover and pillowcases. Single sets come with one pillowcase; double, king size, super king, and emperor sets come with two. The pillowcases are made from the same fabric as the duvet cover, in the same colourway and thread count. If you need additional pillowcases, for example, if you use more than two pillows, matching pairs are available to buy separately across most ranges. Duvet cover sets do not include the duvet itself; the cover is designed to enclose your existing duvet, making it easy to wash and change the look of your bed without replacing the duvet.

What size duvet cover do I need?

Choose a duvet cover that matches the size of your duvet: single (135 × 200 cm), double (200 × 200 cm), king size (230 × 220 cm), super king (260 × 220 cm), or emperor (290 × 235 cm). These are standard UK duvet cover dimensions. If your duvet cover is too small, the duvet will bunch inside and feel uneven; too large, and it may feel loose and shift during the night. Always check the size of the duvet you already own rather than choosing based on bed size alone, a king size bed, for instance, can take either a king or super king duvet depending on how much overhang you prefer.

What is the best fabric for a duvet cover?

The best fabric depends on how you sleep. Cotton is breathable, softens with washing, and suits most sleepers, Belledorm's cotton duvet covers range from 200 thread count percale, which has a cool, crisp feel, through to 1200 thread count sateen, which is smoother and more weighty. Egyptian cotton at 400 or 600 thread count offers a balance of softness and durability with a noticeably finer hand-feel than standard cotton. Polycotton (a cotton and polyester blend) is easier to care for, dries faster, and resists creasing, a practical choice for busy households. Brushed cotton is warmer and suited to autumn and winter. Bamboo and silk are naturally temperature-regulating and hypoallergenic.

Does thread count matter in a duvet cover?

Thread count affects how a duvet cover feels against skin. A 200 thread count percale has a lighter, crisper texture, cool and breathable, well suited to warmer months or people who sleep hot. A 400 thread count sateen is smoother and more substantial, with a gentle sheen. At 600 thread count and above, the weave becomes noticeably denser and silkier, with a heavier drape. Higher thread counts are not automatically better, they give a different feel rather than a superior one. What matters most is matching the thread count and weave to your personal comfort preference. Belledorm stocks duvet covers from 200 to 1200 thread count across cotton, Egyptian cotton, and Pima cotton.

What is the difference between sateen and percale in a duvet cover?

Sateen and percale are two different weave constructions, each producing a distinct feel. Percale uses a one-over, one-under weave that creates a crisp, matte surface, it feels cool to the touch and is lighter in weight, making it a good choice for warmer sleepers or summer use. Sateen uses a four-over, one-under weave that produces a smoother, slightly lustrous surface with more drape. Sateen retains a little more warmth than percale, so it tends to suit cooler months or those who prefer a heavier, silkier feel against skin. Both are available across Belledorm's cotton and Egyptian cotton duvet cover ranges.

What duvet cover fabric is best for hot sleepers?

If you sleep warm, a percale weave cotton or a bamboo duvet cover will help you stay cooler. Percale's open, breathable weave allows more air to circulate than sateen, giving a crisper, cooler feel against skin. Belledorm's 200 thread count cotton percale is particularly light and airy. Bamboo duvet covers are naturally moisture-wicking and temperature-regulating, drawing heat away from the body more effectively than standard cotton. Avoid high thread count sateen if you overheat, the denser weave retains more warmth. Pairing a breathable duvet cover with a lower tog duvet (1.5/4.5 tog in summer, 10.5 tog in spring and autumn) will also make a noticeable difference.

How do I wash a duvet cover?

Most Belledorm duvet covers can be machine washed at 40°C on a standard cycle. Turn the cover inside out before washing to protect the surface and any embroidered or printed detail. Use a mild detergent and avoid bleach, which can weaken fibres and affect colour over time. Tumble dry on a low to medium setting or line dry. Egyptian cotton and higher thread count covers benefit from being removed from the dryer slightly damp and smoothed flat, this reduces creasing and helps the fabric keep its soft finish. Polycotton covers dry faster and resist creasing more than pure cotton, making them lower maintenance. Always check the care label for your specific product.

How often should I change my duvet cover?

Most sleep hygiene guidance recommends changing your duvet cover every one to two weeks. During warmer months, or if you perspire more at night, changing weekly is better for freshness and skin comfort. The duvet cover is in direct contact with your skin for hours each night, so it accumulates body oils, sweat, and dust mites more quickly than other bedding items. Having two or three duvet covers in rotation means you always have a fresh one ready while another is being washed. Belledorm's polycotton covers are particularly practical for frequent washing, they dry quickly and maintain their shape well over repeated cycles.

What styles of duvet cover does Belledorm offer?

Belledorm's duvet cover collection includes plain, embroidered, floral, jacquard, geometric, striped, seersucker, textured, patterned, and traditional designs. Plain-dyed duvet covers are available across most fabric ranges and in over a dozen colourways, making them easy to coordinate with existing bedding and accessories. Patterned and floral designs suit bedrooms where the duvet cover is the focal point of the scheme. Jacquard and embroidered styles add texture and detail without bold colour or pattern. Seersucker has a naturally crinkled surface that does not require ironing. The full range is available in sizes from single to emperor, so whatever style you choose, you can match it to your bed size.

Are Belledorm duvet covers guaranteed?

Yes. Belledorm duvet cover sets are guaranteed for a minimum of two years under normal domestic use. This covers manufacturing defects in fabric, stitching, and fastening. With proper care, washing at the recommended temperature, avoiding bleach, and following the care label, cotton and Egyptian cotton duvet covers typically last well beyond the guarantee period. The fabric softens with each wash rather than wearing thin, particularly at higher thread counts where the denser weave resists pilling and thinning over time. If you experience any issues within the guarantee period, Belledorm's customer service team can be contacted free of charge on 0800 634 5501.
