Base Wraps

Fitting our base wrap is a simple and straightforward process that required no special tools. Here are the steps to ensure a snug and seamless fit: 

1. Prepare the Bed: Lifting the mattress off the bed base is not required, but if you wish to, it will give you easy access to the bed base, if you have an ottoman bed, ensure it is in the closed position.
2. Position the Base Wrap: Hold the wrap by its corners and begin by aligning it at one corner of the bed base. 
3. Stretch and Fit: Pull the wrap along the edges, if the base is not so deep then make sure to tuck the fabric underneath the bed base as you go. The elasticated edge will help to secure it in place.
4. Adjust: Once you've fitted the wrap around all corners, make any final adjustments to ensure it is sitting flat and smooth against all sides of the bed base. 
5. Replace the Mattress: If you lifted the mattress off the bed, carefully lower the mattress back, however with our base wrap removing the mattress is not required.

A divan base wrap is a fitted fabric cover that stretches around the outside of a divan bed base to conceal it and give the bed a clean, finished look. Unlike a traditional valance, which hangs from beneath the mattress as a skirt, a base wrap fits directly onto the base itself using elasticated edges, similar to how a fitted sheet grips a mattress. This makes it quicker to fit, easier to remove for washing, and gives a smoother, more modern appearance. Base wraps are sometimes called divan base covers, bed base covers, or box spring wraps, but they all describe the same product.

A base wrap fits directly around the divan base and is held in place by elasticated edges, giving a smooth, tailored finish. A valance is a fabric panel that hangs from beneath the mattress, draping down the sides like a skirt. The main practical difference is fitting: a base wrap can be put on without lifting the mattress, whereas a traditional platform valance requires the mattress to be removed. Base wraps tend to suit contemporary bedrooms where a clean, fitted look works best. Valances suit a more traditional style, particularly frilled or pleated designs. Choose a base wrap that matches your divan bed size, single, double, king size, or super king. Belledorm's base wraps are made to fit standard UK divan dimensions: single 91 × 191 cm, double 137 × 191 cm, king size 152 × 198 cm, and super king 186 × 198 cm. The stretchy fabric and elasticated edges mean the wrap accommodates slight variations in base size, so it does not need to be an exact match to the centimetre. If your bed is a non-standard or continental size, measure the length, width, and depth of the base before ordering to ensure a good fit.

Measure from the top of the divan base (where the mattress sits) straight down to the floor, or to where you want the wrap to finish. Most standard UK divan bases are between 28 cm and 40 cm deep. Belledorm's base wraps fit depths from 28 cm to 43 cm, so they cover the full range of standard and deeper divan bases. If your base is shallower than the wrap, the excess fabric tucks neatly underneath. You do not need to include the mattress in this measurement, the base wrap covers only the divan base, not the mattress on top of it.

It depends on the look and feel you want. Faux suede has a smooth, tactile surface with a slightly structured finish - it works well in bedrooms with a warm, contemporary feel and is available in colours including white, black, charcoal, chocolate, and linen. Jersey cotton is the softest and most stretchy of the three, making it the easiest to fit and remove for washing, it comes in shades including powder pink, navy, linen, and cloud. Crushed velvet has a textured, light-catching surface that adds depth and a more furnished appearance, available in champagne and silver. All three are machine washable and made from easy-care fabric.

Yes. Belledorm's base wraps are designed to fit around a divan base even when a headboard is screwed directly into it. The stretchy fabric and elasticated edges allow the wrap to be positioned around the headboard fixings without needing to remove or disconnect anything. This is one of the practical advantages of a base wrap over a traditional valance, a platform valance that sits underneath the mattress can be more awkward to fit around headboard brackets, whereas a base wrap simply stretches over the base and tucks into place around any fixtures.

Yes. Most king size and super king divan bases are made from two halves joined together, which can leave a visible line or gap running across the middle of the base. A base wrap covers the entire outer surface of the base, concealing the split join completely. The elasticated edges hold the fabric in place across both halves, so the join is hidden. This is one of the most common reasons people choose a base wrap, a tired-looking divan base with a visible seam can look noticeably better once the wrap is fitted.

All three Belledorm base wrap fabrics, faux suede, jersey cotton, and crushed velvet, are machine washable. Remove the wrap from the bed base, wash at 30°C to 40°C on a gentle cycle with a mild detergent, and avoid using bleach. Tumble dry on a low setting or air dry flat. Jersey cotton dries the quickest and regains its stretch easily. Faux suede and crushed velvet may take a little longer to dry but do not need ironing, any creases from washing tend to settle once the wrap is back on the base. Because base wraps do not come into direct contact with skin, they do not need washing as often as bed sheets.
