Are the Kira duvet and 200 thread count sheet fire retardant? My mother-in-law is going into a care home and we’d like her to have her own bedding but they’ve said it must be fire retardant.

Asked by: Sandra

Neither our Kira duvet cover set nor our 200 thread count sheets are manufactured or certified as fire retardant. Our duvet covers and bed linen are designed for domestic use and are not treated with a fire-retardant finish.

It is a little unusual for duvet covers and sheets to be specifically requested as fire retardant, as requirements more commonly apply to items such as pillows, duvets, mattress toppers and other filled bedding. However, individual care homes can have their own policies and requirements, so if they have specifically requested FR-certified bed linen, unfortunately these particular products would not be suitable.

It may be worth checking with the care home exactly which items they require to be fire retardant before purchasing, as they may be referring specifically to the filled bedding rather than the sheets and duvet cover.
