What types of bed sheet does Belledorm sell?

Belledorm sells fitted sheets, flat sheets, pillowcases, and valance sheets. Fitted sheets have elasticated corners and are available in three depths: standard 30cm, extra deep 38cm for thicker mattresses, and ultra deep 46cm for the deepest mattresses and adjustable beds. Flat sheets sit between you and the duvet for a layered feel. All sheet types are available in fabrics from 200 thread count polycotton through to 1200 thread count Egyptian cotton, plus bamboo, jersey cotton, brushed cotton flannelette, Pima cotton, silk, and linen.

What size bed sheets do I need?

Measure the width of your mattress to confirm your bed size: 90cm is single, 120cm is small double (4ft), 135cm is double, 150cm is king, 180cm is super king. For fitted sheets, also measure the total depth of your mattress including any topper or protector - this determines whether you need a standard 30cm, extra deep 38cm, or ultra deep 46cm sheet. Belledorm also stocks specialist sizes including bunk bed, long single, IKEA Euro king, emperor, and large emperor.

What is the best fabric for bed sheets?

The best fabric depends on how you sleep. Polycotton (200 thread count) is lightweight, crease-resistant, and quick to dry - practical for everyday use. Cotton sateen at 300 or 600 thread count feels smoother and has a slight sheen. Egyptian cotton uses longer-staple fibres for a more consistent surface that softens with washing and resists pilling. Bamboo is naturally moisture-wicking and suits warm sleepers. Brushed cotton flannelette traps warmth for winter. Jersey cotton has a stretchy, T-shirt-soft feel.

What is the difference between a fitted sheet and a flat sheet?

A fitted sheet wraps around the mattress and is held in place by elasticated corners. It stays put overnight and is the standard base layer for most beds. A flat sheet is a single, unhemmed piece of fabric that sits between you and the duvet. It adds a layer of temperature regulation, protects the duvet cover from body oils and perspiration, and gives the bed a traditional, hotel-style finish. Many people use both together; some prefer just a fitted sheet and duvet.

How do I stop my fitted sheet from coming off the mattress?

The most common reason a fitted sheet pulls free is that the depth is wrong for the mattress. Measure the total depth of your mattress including any topper and choose a sheet with a box depth that matches - a 30cm sheet on a 28cm mattress will have very little fabric to tuck under and will slip off. Belledorm fitted sheets have fully elasticated edges (not just corner elastic), which keeps the sheet anchored more securely around all four sides of the mattress.

What thread count should I choose for bed sheets?

Thread count measures the number of threads woven into one square inch of fabric. A 200 thread count polycotton or cotton percale has a crisp, cool feel suited to warm sleepers and everyday use. A 400 thread count cotton sateen is noticeably smoother. At 600 thread count and above, the fabric becomes denser and silkier, with a heavier drape. Above 1000 thread count, returns diminish - the weave type and fibre quality matter more than the number itself. Belledorm offers sheets from 200 to 1500 thread count across multiple fabric types.

How often should I wash my bed sheets?

Most sleep hygiene guidance recommends washing sheets every one to two weeks. During warmer months or if you perspire more at night, weekly washing is better for freshness and skin comfort. Belledorm cotton and polycotton sheets can be machine washed at 40°C on a standard cycle. Egyptian cotton and higher thread count sheets benefit from being removed from the dryer slightly damp and smoothed flat to reduce creasing.

Can I buy matching sheets, duvet covers, and pillowcases?

Yes. Belledorm's sheet fabrics are available in matching duvet covers and pillowcases across most ranges, in the same thread count and colourway. This makes it straightforward to coordinate your entire bed from one fabric family. Bedding bundles are also available, which bring together a fitted sheet, duvet cover, and pillowcases in one order with a saving built in.

What are the dimensions of a double bed fitted sheet, flat sheet, and duvet cover?

UK double bed bedding from Belledorm follows the standard dimensions used across the British bedding industry, with fitted sheet depth varying depending on your mattress. Product Standard UK Size Fitted sheet 135cm x 190cm (4ft 6in x 6ft 3in) Flat sheet 230cm x 275cm Duvet cover 200cm x 200cm Fitted sheets are available in three depths: standard 30cm (12 inches) for mattresses up to 22cm deep, extra deep 38cm (15 inches) for mattresses up to 30cm including those with toppers, and ultra deep 46cm (18 inches) for the deepest luxury and adjustable mattresses. Always measure your total mattress depth, including any topper or protector, before selecting a fitted sheet depth.

What size mattress does a double fitted sheet fit?

A standard Belledorm double fitted sheet (135cm x 190cm) fits a UK double mattress measuring 135cm wide by 190cm long, the most common shared bed size in the UK, found in the majority of couples' beds, guest rooms, and rental properties. The fitted sheet's length and width dimensions are fixed to the mattress size. What varies is the depth, the box measurement that wraps under the mattress edge. Belledorm offers double fitted sheets in 30cm (standard), 38cm (extra deep), and 46cm (ultra deep) depths to accommodate mattresses from basic 15cm models through to 35cm+ pocket sprung mattresses with toppers. If you are buying for a small double mattress (120cm wide), a standard double sheet will not fit correctly, check the small double 4ft range instead.

What is the difference between a double and a king size bed?

A UK double bed measures 135cm x 190cm (4ft 6in x 6ft 3in). A king size measures 150cm x 200cm (5ft x 6ft 6in), 15cm wider and 10cm longer. The two sizes use different fitted sheets, flat sheets, and duvet covers, none of which are interchangeable. The additional 15cm width of a king size makes a meaningful practical difference for two adults sharing, each person gains approximately 7.5cm more sleeping space. The 10cm extra length is also significant for taller adults over 6ft. A double fitted sheet will not stretch to fit a king size mattress and will pull free from the corners. If you are unsure which size your mattress is, measure the width: 135cm is double, 150cm is king size, 180cm is super king.

Is a double bed big enough for two people?

A double bed (135cm x 190cm) accommodates two adults and remains the most common shared bed size in UK homes. Each person has approximately 67.5cm of sleeping width, comfortable for couples who sleep close together, though noticeably less spacious than a king size (75cm per person). Double beds work well in smaller bedrooms and rental properties where floor space is limited, and are a practical choice for guest rooms. For couples who prefer more room to move independently, or for adults over 6ft where the 190cm length may feel restrictive, a king size (150cm x 200cm) is a more comfortable long-term alternative. Belledorm's double sheet range covers 121 products across all fabrics and depths, from Basics Polycotton from £10.50 through to 1200TC Cotton Sateen.

What bedding do I need to buy for a double bed - complete list?

To fully dress a double bed, you need a fitted sheet, a duvet cover, and at least two pillowcases. A flat sheet is optional but recommended for a layered or hotel-style setup. The complete double bed bedding list: Fitted sheet (135cm x 190cm) - in your chosen depth: 30cm, 38cm, or 46cm Duvet cover (200cm x 200cm) - sized for a double duvet Pillowcases - standard UK pillow is 48cm x 74cm; two for a double bed Flat sheet (230cm x 275cm) - optional, used between the fitted sheet and duvet Mattress protector (135cm x 190cm) - recommended to extend mattress life and add a hygiene layer Valance sheet - optional, used to conceal the bed base and divan legs for a neater finish All items are available in matching fabrics and colours across Belledorm's double range, making it straightforward to build a fully coordinated set.

Are double bed sheets a standard size across all UK brands?

Yes, UK double bed sheet dimensions are standardised: fitted sheets are 135cm x 190cm, flat sheets are 230cm x 275cm, and duvet covers are 200cm x 200cm. Belledorm's double range follows these standard UK dimensions throughout. The one variable is fitted sheet depth, this is not standardised and varies by product and brand. Always check the box depth (30cm, 38cm, or 46cm) against your mattress measurement before purchasing. One common point of confusion is the duvet cover: a double duvet cover (200cm x 200cm) is square, not rectangular, this is correct and standard across the UK industry. If you are buying bedding as a gift or for a property you cannot measure, standard UK double dimensions apply to the overwhelming majority of double beds manufactured since 2000.

What depth of fitted sheet do I need?

It depends on your mattress depth. Belledorm fitted sheets come in standard 30cm, extra deep 38cm, and ultra deep 46cm options. Measure your mattress before buying - if you use a mattress topper, add that measurement too. Most standard UK mattresses suit a 30cm sheet, but if corners keep popping off, go up to 38cm.

What is the difference between percale and sateen fitted sheets?

Percale has a crisp, cool feel, ideal if you sleep warm or love that fresh hotel sensation. Sateen has a smooth, silky finish that feels more luxurious but retains slightly more warmth. If you are unsure, percale is the safer all-round choice for most sleepers.

Does a higher thread count mean better quality?

Not necessarily. A well-made 200 thread count in pure cotton will often outperform a cheap 800 thread count in lower quality fabric. What matters more is the fibre quality and weave construction. Belledorm's range runs from 200TC up to 1500TC, so there is something for every preference and budget.

What sizes do Belledorm fitted sheets come in?

The range covers everything from bunk bed and narrow single through to emperor and large emperor, including small double (4ft), standard double, king, super king, and IKEA Euro King. Special sizes are also available for non-standard mattresses including 6'6'' beds and super single.

Which fitted sheet is best for hot sleepers?

Go for a percale weave in 100% cotton, it is breathable and gets crisper with every wash. The 200TC or 400TC Egyptian cotton options are particularly popular with warm sleepers. Avoid sateen or very high thread count options if you tend to overheat, as the denser weave retains more warmth.

Are Belledorm fitted sheets suitable for deep mattresses with a topper?

Yes. The extra deep 38cm and ultra deep 46cm options are specifically designed for thicker setups. If you have a standard mattress plus a topper, the 38cm extra deep should cover most combinations. For particularly thick setups, the 46cm ultra deep is the safest choice.

What is the difference between Egyptian cotton and standard cotton fitted sheets?

Egyptian cotton has longer fibres, which means a softer, smoother feel that actually improves with washing rather than deteriorating over time. It is also more durable. Standard cotton is perfectly good quality for everyday use and comes at a lower price point, Belledorm's 200TC 100% cotton percale is a great example of quality without the premium price tag.

Do you offer fitted sheets for non-standard mattress sizes?

Yes. Belledorm stocks fitted sheets for a wide range of special sizes including narrow single, long single, long narrow single, bunk bed, 6'6'' beds, super single, and IKEA Euro King, alongside all standard UK sizes.

Can I order a sample before buying?

Yes, most Belledorm fitted sheets have a sample option available so you can feel the fabric quality before committing to a full set. Look for the "Sample Available" label on individual product listings throughout the range.

What is the best fitted sheet for winter versus summer?

For winter, brushed cotton (flannelette) is the go-to choice, it has a warm, soft feel that is noticeably cosier on cold nights. For summer, a lightweight 200TC percale in pure cotton keeps things cool and breathable. You can filter by season directly on the fitted sheets page to narrow down your options quickly.
